What Window Screen Repair & Replacement Covers
Window-screen work is part of our doors and windows services. The first decision is whether the existing frame can be reused or whether the complete screen needs replacement.
Screen work depends on frame condition, dimensions, spline or retaining method and the mesh type. A bent or broken frame can require more than replacing the mesh.
Common Project Types
Torn mesh in a sound frame may be a rescreening job. A bent frame, broken corner or missing retention hardware introduces additional work. Mesh choice should reflect the insect-screening purpose and fit the frame's retaining system; a thicker material is not automatically compatible.
Existing Conditions and Preparation
Photograph the full opening, frame, hardware and any damaged or binding areas. Add measurements where fit or clearance matters, and provide the product model, manual or material details when a specific item is being installed or replaced.
Describe the current problem and the result you want. Existing damage, repeated failure or an underlying condition should be identified before new finish work or hardware conceals it.
For this request, the useful close-ups are the mesh, corners, retaining groove or clips, and the screen's fit in the window. Label multiple panels by room and give approximate sizes. Do not remove a screen from an unsafe upper-level position for a photograph.
How the Work Is Planned
The plan identifies reusable frame and retaining components before the replacement mesh or panel is selected. Fitting checks should include the screen's edges, retention and intended removal method. Rescreening cannot correct a distorted window opening or make a damaged sash operate properly.
Related Services and Scope Boundaries
A window that will not open or close may need general window repair. A screen door belongs with screen door installation and repair. Drafts and rain entry concern the window's sealing system; window weatherproofing addresses that separate intent.
What Affects Scope and Quote
Panel quantity and size, frame condition, mesh type, retaining method and safe access affect the quote. New frame fabrication or replacement clips should be distinguished from mesh-only work. A mesh-only quote does not include replacing window glass or repairing the surrounding opening.
A short description of what is wrong now and what you want to change is enough for the first review.
FAQ
When is replacing the mesh enough?
When the frame is sound, fits the opening and can retain compatible new mesh. Bent members, damaged corners or missing clips may need repair or complete-panel replacement first.
Can the old spline or retaining strip always be reused?
No. Its condition and compatibility with the frame and new mesh need to be checked. The retaining method is part of the screen system, not an interchangeable accessory chosen only by appearance.
Will a new screen stop a window draft?
Insect mesh is not the window’s air or water seal. A draft needs the sash, frame and sealing details assessed separately, even if the screen is also torn.
Send panel photos and a screen count to request a repair or replacement quote.
