Door Handle & Hardware Installation in Los Angeles

CA-GoodHome installs door handles and hardware in Los Angeles and Southern California. A successful replacement starts with the door’s existing holes, swing and latch alignment, so the new hardware fits the opening and works comfortably.

Door Handle & Hardware Installation: What the Service Covers

A loose lever, a worn latch and a mismatched set of hinges call for different work. This service covers fitting selected handles, knobs, latches, deadbolts, hinges and related mechanical door hardware, with the components and any door preparation identified before installation. It sits within our doors and windows services; replacing an entire door or rebuilding its jamb is a separate decision.

For a hardware-only project, the door should first be able to sit correctly in its frame. A latch that misses its strike may reflect a sagging door rather than a defective handle. Describing whether you must lift, push or pull the door to latch it helps distinguish the two.

Options, Sizes or Configurations

Choose hardware by function before finish. Passage hardware opens without a lock; privacy hardware serves rooms where an interior locking function is wanted; keyed entry hardware has a different purpose. A fixed pull does not do the work of a latch. Identify each door’s use, then compare the selected product’s preparation requirements with the door.

Compatibility involves more than the visible knob. Bore diameter, door thickness, backset and the spacing of separate handle and deadbolt holes matter. Backset is the distance from the door edge to the center of the handle or lock hole. Lever handing and hinge size also need checking against the selected hardware rather than assumed from its appearance.

Existing Conditions and Preparation

Photograph both faces of the door, its edge, the hinges and the strike on the jamb. Include any product markings, damaged screw holes and the outline left by the old trim plate. A smaller replacement plate can expose an unpainted patch even when its mechanism fits. Keep the old parts available until the replacement has been checked.

  • List which doors need handles, locks, hinges or a combination.
  • Send the selected model and its installation sheet, if purchased.
  • Note sticking, rattling, loose fasteners or a latch that will not engage.
  • Identify any desired finish repair around the old hardware.

Installation / Construction Process

The work is planned around retaining usable door preparation where possible. Existing hardware is removed, the exposed holes and mounting areas are assessed, and the selected components are fitted to their instructions. Enlarging holes, changing hinge recesses or repairing stripped fixing points changes the scope and should be settled before altering the door.

Alignment, Connections and Final Checks

Checks include handle movement, latch return, strike engagement and clearance through the door’s swing. A deadbolt should be tested with the door open and closed so a frame-alignment problem is not mistaken for a lock problem. Physical fitting of an electronic lock should be distinguished from account setup, access-code management, networking or a wider security-system installation.

Related Services and Scope Boundaries

If the slab rubs the frame or the jamb is damaged, general door installation and repair may be needed before new hardware will operate correctly. Track-mounted doors have different fittings: use barn door installation for a new wall-mounted sliding system, or patio and sliding door installation and repair when the panel, rollers or track are involved.

What Affects the Quote

The number of doors, hardware type, existing hole pattern, hinge condition and amount of fitting determine the work. Matching a replacement to an older lock preparation can require more investigation than exchanging compatible components. Include door alterations, finish touch-ups and any separate locksmith or electronic setup requirements in the request so the quote does not quietly assume them.

FAQ

Will every replacement handle fit the existing door holes?

No. The new hardware must match the door thickness, bore layout, backset and latch preparation specified for that model. Some replacements fit the existing holes; others need an adapter, a different product or agreed alterations to the door. A similar-looking handle is not proof of compatibility.

Should I replace the handle if I have to lift the door to latch it?

Have the hinges, door position and strike alignment checked first. Lifting the door changes where the latch meets the frame, so a new handle alone may leave the same problem. Hardware replacement makes sense when the component itself is worn or a different function is wanted.
