Identify What Arrives Separately
Massage chairs differ in how much assembly remains after delivery. A model may arrive largely complete, or with separate arm sections, a legrest, cushions, a controller and connecting components. Send the exact model and packing list so the request covers the actual delivery format. The product's appearance in a sales photograph does not show which parts are loose in the cartons.
Keep the chair's assembly instructions distinct from its operating instructions, and have both available where supplied. The assembly information identifies attachments and connections; the operating guidance explains how the finished chair is used. A partly assembled chair needs photographs showing what is attached, what remains loose and any point where previous work stopped.
Check the Journey to the Room
Compare the route with the largest section in its delivery configuration. Door frames, tight turns, stairs and landings can matter as much as the final room size. Tell the service partner whether the chair is in its shipping carton, a garage, an entryway or already in the room. Moving a heavy body to another floor should be identified before the assembly visit is agreed.
Confirm which components the manufacturer intends to be detached for delivery or assembly. Do not assume every arm or back section can be removed to make a narrow doorway work. Unplanned dismantling can involve connections and mechanisms beyond the normal setup procedure. Photographs and product dimensions help establish whether the chosen route is practical.
Choose any floor protection in conjunction with the product's placement guidance. The supporting surface needs to accommodate the chair in use, and loose or unsuitable coverings can affect placement. Point out existing floor damage or unevenness. Repairing the room or changing the access opening remains separate work.
Plan the Full Reclining Space
Use the manufacturer's operating dimensions, including backrest movement and legrest extension, when selecting the position. An upright footprint can fit between furniture while the reclined chair reaches beyond that space. Models described as space-saving still have their own movement paths and clearance requirements; the description is not a universal distance from a wall.
Show nearby tables, wall fittings, doors and the route used to approach the seat. Leave the specified space around moving parts, and consider where the controller and supplied power lead will sit. The final arrangement should let the chair complete its intended movement without meeting another object or restricting the normal route through the room.
If the room also contains a sectional or reclining sofa, review its movement envelope separately under sofa assembly. Two pieces that fit while closed may compete for the same space when either is extended.
Fit Supplied Modules and Review Normal Operation
The agreed scope may include attaching the specified arm or leg sections, fitting cushions and connecting manufacturer-provided plugs or air lines identified in the assembly instructions. These details vary by model. The relevant retainers and routing should be checked before panels conceal the connections, with any damaged or missing part recorded.
Establish whether an ordinary functional check is included after assembly. That can help distinguish an unfinished connection from a problem requiring product support. A motor fault, error message, damaged lead or leaking internal component is a repair issue, not an invitation to open and modify the chair's mechanisms as part of routine assembly.
Identify the existing power arrangement before the visit. New outlets, wiring changes and diagnosis of supply problems are outside ordinary product setup. Use the chair's stated electrical requirements and its original components rather than assuming any adapter or extension arrangement is suitable.
Prepare the Chair and the Information
- Model label, packing list and matching assembly and user manuals.
- Photographs of the delivered sections and any previous assembly.
- Access dimensions and details of stairs, tight turns or obstacles.
- The proposed position shown with full recline and legrest travel in mind.
- Known damage, error messages, missing parts and additional moving requests.
Keep packaging until the parts have been checked, and identify any packaging removal you want included. Leave the operating instructions with the chair after setup. Its use restrictions still apply; assembly is not medical advice or a promise of a particular health benefit.
Massage Chair Setup Questions
Is the upright footprint enough to plan the space?
No. Use the model's reclined dimensions and specified operating clearances, including movement of its legrest. Share those details with your massage chair assembly request so placement is considered before components are fitted.
Can assembly resolve an error on a used chair?
Describe the error separately, including when it occurs and any known damage. A used chair may need manufacturer support or repair before setup can be completed. Reconnecting supplied modules does not establish that an internal fault has been repaired.
